Faery Childcare was Honoured to be apart of The Region of Waterloo, First Annual HCC Home Tour, 2019
Collaborating with the Region of Waterloo, Home Childcare has taken my program to a different expected of quality and growth. My program has found a level of calmness with being under contract with the Region of Waterloo, Home Childcare Program.
Since contracting, I have been a part of great profession development, I have been able to support other providers, to facilitate the Community of Practice for Home Childcare with another amazing RECE and most recently, I was asked to have my space be in the tour. I had other providers, both private and contracted come to our space. I was able to share some resources, spark some ideas, have conversations and even be asked to help another provider set up their space.
Professionally, I am so very grateful to be able to highlight the wonderful opportunities being contacted with the region allows me. I am also very happy to have been able to collaborate with my consultant on this project, share some laughs, and actually drink a hot tea without it going cold. Special thanks to all my families for your support on this project, and finding care for me to participate in this event. I cannot wait to see what the next year has in store for my program and its growth!
In all the speed in our society, Faery Childcare is starting a mindfulness program with her children each day. Collectively, we are going to spend time to practice our self calming skills. On a flyer on mindfulness from Zero to Three, clarifies mindfulness as mindfulness as "a process of intentionally bringing our attention to what’s happening in the present moment with acceptance and openness, it means being curious and not judging our feelings or experiences." I read an article called, Mindfulness in Early Childhood Education: Supporting Cognitive and Social-Emotional Well-being in Primary Classrooms, By Laura Parker, BA, "The practice of mindfulness has grown in popularity in contemporary classrooms; however, much remains unknown about the potential impact of mindfulness practices with young learners. This project reviews the existing literature on cognitive functioning and social and emotional well-being in relation to mindfulness practices, and the impact of mindfulness practices in classroom settings." While this is not our classroom, it does showcase the busyness that envelops our day, and these little children's lives. Some days I am more aware of the need to slow down a little more, today was one of those days. Little ones need more uninterrupted time to discover their world, while play groups and trips are great, it also takes its toll on some of the little ones. So mindfulness and a calmer timetable will be on the plans to see how it impacts on my little ones in care.
Practices like mindfulness and yoga have been linked to self-regulation, emotional control, and adaptability. A study called, Benefits of a Mindfulness-Based Program in Early Childhood Classrooms by Melanie Viglas, PHD, explains that the "Research exploring the efficacy of these programs has demonstrated that their implementation into classrooms is associated with various positive outcomes such as better self-regulation" (Flook, et al., 2010; Razza, Bergen-Cico &
